Do I need to register on the day?

There will be registration on the day of the event. However we would prefer for your registation to be completed before the day of the event, with registration closing on the 18th March 2015. Once registered, we will be sending you your walk pack in due course with all the information that you will need for the day.

Can I get food and drink on the day?

A free pasty and a pint will be provided upon your return. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments to consume on the walk and we suggest that you bring water with you as well, but no alcohol will be permitted within the event site or during the walk.

What is the route of the walk?

The 12K walk will begin and end at the home of the Exeter City Football Club, St James Park. The route will be well signposted on the day of the walk and marshals will be there to point you in the right direction, there will also be maps of the route available to collect before you start the walk. 

What is the terrain like?

The walk has been designed for men of all ages and fitness levels. There are some hills, some of the terrain is pavement walking and foot paths and some places may be wet and slippy if it has been raining. Walking boots or walking trainers are recommended.

How long will the walk take?

The walk is definitely not a race and there will be no pressure to finish within a certain time. We anticipate that it will take anything from two to four hours to complete.

What happens if I cannot finish the walk?

If you cannot finish the walk and feel you might need to stop and pull out at any point. Please tell your nearest volunteer marshal who will be able to assist you. If you need to pull out please notify us so that we know that you are safe. Contact numbers and maps will be handed out on the day.

Will it be safe? 

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. We do ask that you bring your mobile phone if you have one, and that it is switched on, fully charged and with plenty of credit on it.

Will there be anywhere to leave valuables? 

Unfortunately there are no facilities to store your possessions so please do make sure that you only bring essential items with you.

Will there be first aid facilities?

We will have first aiders available at St James Park and out on the route of the walk.

Will there be toilets on the route?

Toilet facilities will be available at the start and the end of the route only.

What should I wear? 

We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and clothes (including your FUGBY12 T-shirt!). The walk will not be sheltered so you may need to bring some wet weather gear too. We suggest that you wear layers which you can put on and take off as needed.

Your shoes are the most important item of clothing. Footwear should be comfortable this could be trainers or walking boots. Make sure that whatever footwear you decide to walk in are well-worn in.

I have a disability can I still take part? 

Disabled entrants are very welcome to take part but due to the nature of the event, we ask you to contact us prior to completing the form as in certain cases participation may be more difficult. The route is not suitable for wheelchair access.

Do I need to train? 

FUGBY12 is a fun walk, however it is 7.5miles long! The walk does have several steep hills and takes you through  countryside terrain so please be aware that it will be challenging in parts.

Can we walk as a group?

Yes. Absolutely. When registering as a group each participant needs to fill in their own form. Tell us your team name and let us know how you have raised money in a group.

Can I take part in the FUGBY12 alone? 

Although you can enter the walk alone, we recommend that you encourage some friends or family members to take part with you. However, it should be a great way to make new friends!

What time can I arrive?

The walk starts at 12.30pm however we ask you arrive between 11.30am and 12 noon to get there with plenty of time to park and hand in your sponsorship money.

Can I bring my dog?

The Club do welcome well behaved dogs, you must be responsible for your four-legged friend at all times and clear up after them, so take plenty of bags.

Do I need to raise a certain amount of money?

We have not set a minimum sponsorship amount that you need to raise,  we do ask that you raise as much as you can! We will send you a sponsorship form when you register for the event. Can I Gift Aid my sponsorship? 

You can ask each person who sponsors you to Gift Aid their donation by ticking the gift aid box on the sponsorship form. Any personal donations are eligible for Gift Aid. Please make sure your sponsors fill in their complete home address and postcode, otherwise we are unable to claim Gift Aid.

Can I hand in my sponsorship money on the day?

Yes!- Please bring your sponsorship money with you on the day to hand in before the walk (cheques made payable to Hospiscare). This is the easiest way of handing in your sponsorship money or if you would prefer not to handle any money at all you can choose to set up a online donations to Justgiving or Virgin Money Giving and all the money comes directly to Hospiscare!

How old do I need to be? 

Entry for the FUGBY12 is open to entrants aged 12 and over. An adult guardian must accompany each entrant aged under 16 for the duration of the walk and we must have a signed parental consent form filled in by each under 16's legal parent or guardian.

For school and youth groups there must be a ratio of two adults per five pupils. The guardian must sign the registration  form in the space provided and enter separately for the Men's Walk. The registrations forms must then be submitted together and the full entry fee is applicable for both entrants.  

Why can only men walk? 

We feel this really is a boys day out! We do, however, need lots of volunteers on the day so any ladies out there who want to get involved please contact us about joining the team!
